KNXV-TV studios in Phoenix

KNXV-TV (channel 15) is a television station affiliated with the ABC network in Phoenix, Arizona, United States, and owned by the E. W. Scripps Company. The station launched on September 9, 1979, as an independent station with evening pay subscription television service from ON TV. It was acquired by Scripps in 1985 and served as Phoenix's first affiliate of the then-new Fox network in 1986, becoming one of its strongest affiliates nationally. A multi-market affiliation realignment caused the station to switch from Fox to ABC between 1994 and 1995, in spite of the latter network's reluctance, as part of a deal between ABC and Scripps. During this time, KNXV-TV launched local newscasts, which met with early success before a downturn in the late 1990s and early 2000s; the news department has since recovered, winning a total of three George Foster Peabody Awards.
